After spending a couple of nights at Carbis Bay Hotel and Estate near St Ives, I genuinely believe it to be one of the finest hospitality locations in the UK. The stunning setting, the top-notch service, and the feeling of absolute comfort make it a place I won't forget.

You may remember Carbis Bay from the 2021 G7 Summit when Boris Johnson hosted global leaders such as Joe Biden, Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron, and Justin Trudeau. Naturally, this Cornish gem had to impress on a global stage, and it lived up to its billing. But what makes it so special for the everyday guest? It’s not just the high-profile visits that make Carbis Bay shine; it’s the attention to detail that leaves every visitor with lasting memories. Our beachside lodge, just steps away from the golden sand, was extraordinary. Imagine floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing breathtaking ocean views. One night, as a storm raged, we watched the waves crash while cozy in a vast, comfortable bed—an unforgettable experience. The room was a haven of comfort, where modern design met the classic allure of a seaside escape. Every little detail, from the furnishings to the thoughtful amenities, added to the sense of indulgence.
Our lodge also boasted a private hot tub in the garden, which sat just a few meters from the waves. As I sat there, watching an October gale whip itself into a frenzy, I felt like a millionaire (which I very much am not!). The lodge itself, a three-story haven, was where the German chancellor had stayed. Each room in the lodge was spacious, beautifully appointed, and offered unbelievably wonderful views of the the wave-torn sea.

From the moment we arrived, the concierge service was exceptional. We were welcomed with a platter of savoury treats and a chilled bottle of excellent Cornish bubbly. It was a perfect introduction to the level of hospitality we were about to enjoy. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, always ready to assist with anything we needed. Breakfast was delivered to our lodge upon request—a lavish hamper of local cheeses, smoked salmon, charcuterie, and even hot bacon and sausage sandwiches. The level of care was simply top-notch, earning a perfect 10/10.

We could also have taken advantage of the spa facilities during our stay. The spa, with its serene atmosphere and a range of treatments, was the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate. The heated indoor pool, complete with ocean views, was another highlight. After a soothing massage, we lounged by the pool, taking in the scenery and feeling completely at ease.
Dining Experiences to Savour 🍷🍣
The restaurants at Carbis Bay also delivered an experience fit for world leaders. At Walters on the Beach, we enjoyed a session of fine-dining delights like braised rib of beef and halibut with black risotto. The atmosphere was elegant yet relaxed, with attentive staff ensuring that every need was met. The quality of the ingredients, many of them locally sourced, made every dish stand out.
Meanwhile, the more laid-back Beach Club offered options like whipped gorgonzola and barbecued Cornish brill, which were nothing short of superb. The Beach Club had a warm and welcoming vibe, perfect for a leisurely evening meal. We enjoyed the sunset views over the ocean while sipping on expertly crafted cocktails. The variety of dishes catered to all tastes, from light and healthy to rich and indulgent.
For those seeking something a little different, the Orangery provided a beautiful setting for afternoon tea. With its light-filled space and tranquil views, it was the ideal spot to enjoy a selection of pastries, finger sandwiches, and freshly brewed tea. Every bite was a testament to the skill and creativity of the chefs.
