Remember the Good Old Days of TV Work

Another blast from my past - a short video package from the days when I used to do some TV presenting with ITV Westcountry in conjunction with the Western Morning News.

It was a happy match. We published the articles in the newspaper on the day of screening - so there was a bit of mutual publicity going on between the TV channel and the newspaper which worked well for viewers and readers as well as the various bosses involved.

And worked well for me. I loved working with the film crew and over the years we had a great deal of fun. I am still in touch with my old mate - TV cameraman Chris Harris - and one of these days, when the wretched pandemic is over, I fully intend meeting up with him to perhaps discuss some future projects.

The packages appeared on the regional evening news programmes and so were cut far too short, really - but they did give viewers a taster of the scenery and the landscape, and I had a huge amount of positive feedback. And I mean. enormous feedback - because throughout the various series we took TV cameras where they’d never been before

Ah…. those were the days. The camaraderie of working with a TV crew was refreshing for a feature writer like who normally only ever worked alone. Our producer Cathy Sayers always made sure we had a good pub lunch - and basically, as jolly good time was had by all…
