Helwell Bay, Watchet - a recording for BBC Radio 4's best beaches feature

When BBC Radio 4’s Today programme announced it was going to run a series of features about Britain’s Best Beaches the presenters asked listeners to send in their nominations or even recordings made on their favourite beach. I happened to be in Watchet so I went over to amazing and fascinating Helwell Bay to make a recording. I was really chuffed when the Beeb emailed to say they liked the recording and would be playing it on air today - Monday 11 July.

Interesting wildlife at Helwell Bay

Imagine my surprise when it went out on national radio earlier this weekend under someone else’s name. The Today prog made some sort of apology mentioning my name this morning, but listeners must have been left feeling terribly confused because the apology offered nothing in the way of explanation as to why a beach in Lancashire (as promised on Saturday) suddenly turned into a beach in Somerset.

Hey-ho… That’s my 15 seconds of fame gone west… But here’s the unedited recording that I made. - something I might add to because there are lots of other interesting stales to be told about Helwell Bay
