Exmoor Lockdown Diary 96 - Martin in Martinique

Martinique in the rain

I wasn’t in Martinique long. Just long enough to get chased by a small mob.

It was a long time ago that I spent a rainy afternoon on Martinique, the Caribbean island - and I am remembering it today because this lockdown period has tended to inspire more dreams than usual, And the occasional nightmare.

And few nightmares are as frightening as the ones where you get chased by a mob of people. That has only happened to me once and it was because I dared take a few snaps in the market in Fort-de-France. I knew it was a sensitive area - the people there do not like cameras, but I was doing a few close ups of exotic fruit.

And… Wow, had to run. Fast. Luckily I can do that - or could 18 years ago. Got back to the Star Clipper in the heavy tropical rain - and dreamed about the adventure last night. So just remembering it here and wondering when I’ll ever get the chance to go to Martinique again.

I’d like to, Beautiful island from what I could see of it in the rain.

But I never did get to sample the battery juice they were selling.

Sirop of Batterie? Really?

I’ve been lucky enough to visit a lot of Caribbean islands but don’t think I’ve stayed on one as briefly as my sojourn on Martinique.
