Exmoor Lockdown Diary 25 - Another Video and a Slightly Rewritten Short Story

See this content in the original post

Easter Saturday during the Lockdown and it is a scorcher. Got even hotter for me because my son phoned from London to say he’d listened to my second short story - The Affair - and that he agreed with my wife that the ending didn’t make complete sense.

Which is of course a disaster for me because I’ve spent all my life writing mainly newspaper stories - which are relatively simple to compose - and was kind of hoping that one could step easily from that pursuit in which I regularly wrote more than 4000 words a day, into the world of writing stories. But the jump isn’t quite as easy as it may sound.

The thing is that when you write a story - or, rather, when I write a story - I can see the whole thing playing out in my mind as if the action were taking place on a movie screen. So it all seems so obvious. The failure arises when there’s a different between what you envisage and what the words actually say.

Anyway, I have rewritten the end of the story - and have re-read it and put the new version into the podcast - so if you bothered to listen to it before, then i am very sorry. Try the new version. And if you haven ‘t heard it, please give it a go. In sent it to son Harry who phoned from his London lockdown to say the new version does work.

Thank gawd for that… Here is the audiobook - or you can download it from iTunes or Spotify or Deezer if you’re on a non-=Apple device…
